Jaguar Class

Teachers: Mrs J Richardson | Teaching Assistant: Mrs A Adams

Homework and Reading expectations

Our homework agreement.

In Jaguar class, the children will be expected to complete an English and Maths piece of homework each week. The homework will be discussed in class and then children will write in their planner when this is due.

If we are completing a ‘Big Write’, the children will have an additional piece of planning homework to help prepare them with their ‘Big Write’ for the following week.

Occasionally, additional topic homework may be set. This will help the children to really engage with our exciting topic work and prepare them with some knowledge before we embark on new work.

I encourage the children to read as frequently as possible at home and log this in their homework diaries. These will be checked weekly. As year 5’s, it is important that the children are reading a variety of different genres to help them build an ideas of favorite authors and series.

Thank you for your support,

Miss Redman

Our topic this term is Extreme Earth!

We will be learning about our incredible earth and how natural disasters are formed.

An excellent site to find out about Extreme Earth is the BBC website. There its lots of fantastic information and videos that the children can watch and enjoy

Spellings and Times Tables

Each week, Jaguar class are given spellings and times tables to learn.

The spellings may, for example, follow a particular spelling pattern or may be words to which prefixes or suffixes have been added. Children are given an informal test on a Friday so that they can check their own progress.

It is also expected that the children learn, by heart their times tables. Again, an activity is provided each Friday so that the children can check their own, individual progress. Children soon realise, in the course of their maths lesson, that quick recall of multiplication facts is vital! Please help your child at home by providing time at home for them to learn them.

Children are expected to read at least 4 times a week and this will need to be recorded in their homework diary to be checked on a Friday.

As year 5’s, children are expected to have the correct equipment with them for the school day. Children will need a pencil case with glue, pencil, blue handwriting pen, ruler and rubber. Items are available to buy from the school shop on a Wednesday and Friday lunchtime.

P.E is on a Monday. Children will need to have the appropriate kit for games lessons – shorts, t-shirt, trainers and daps. P.E lessons will take place indoors and lessons will focus on dance during this term.

If you have any questions or queries please feel free to come and see me.
