School Uniform

Our school uniform increases the sense of belonging to the school community and adds to a general smart appearance. In practice, parents find it convenient for children to have clothes specifically appropriate for school.

Current Uniform Requirements:

Sweatshirts: Bottle green with the school logo
Shirts: White collared
Bottoms: Grey or black trousers, shorts, or skirts
Summer option: Green check gingham dresses
Shoes: Black and practical for school use (no open toes or sling backs)

The school helps families in receipt of free school meals meet uniform costs via a clothing grant (one per academic year). Upon application to the school office, a voucher for a jumper or cardigan (with logo) and a PE t-shirt is available. For full details, please contact the school office.

PE Kit

Every child will need a PE bag containing:

Foundation/KS1 (Reception to Year 2):
Plain white t-shirt
Green shorts
Trainers* (preferably Velcro fastening)
*Foundation stage pupils do not need trainers until the summer term.

KS2 (Year 3 to 6):
Plain white t-shirt (may be coloured according to team)
Green shorts
Trainers
Additional items:
From Year 2: Warm black/plain tracksuit bottoms and fleecy tops for outdoor games
From Year 3: Football boots and shin pads; socks if tights are worn
Years 4–6: Named swimming costume (one piece) and towel

If a child has pierced ears, earrings must be removed on PE days or covered with micro-porous tape. Please send a note if a child is to be excused from any sporting activity.

Kitz also offers PE bags, book bags, and sun hats.

Our Commitment to Affordable Uniforms

Sherborne Primary is fully committed to keeping uniform costs reasonable for families. In line with the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill, new government rules will come into effect from September 2026, limiting the number of compulsory branded items:

• Maximum of three branded items for all schools

How We’re Meeting This Guidance

• Our current policy already keeps branded items to a minimum:
  • Sweatshirt or cardigan with logo
  • PE t-shirt with log
• All other items (shirts, trousers, skirts, shorts, dresses, shoes) can be purchased from any retailer, giving families flexibility and choice.
• We provide clothing grants for families in receipt of free school meals, covering a jumper/cardigan and PE t-shirt which can be applied for each academic year through the office.
• Second-hand uniform and PE kit are available through the PTA to further reduce costs.
• We will review our policy regularly to ensure full compliance with the new legislation and maintain affordability.

These changes are designed to reduce costs for families while ensuring children feel part of the school community. Sherborne Primary supports this approach and will continue to make uniform accessible and inclusive.
