CURRICULUM LEADERSHIP
Curriculum leadership at Sherborne Primary School is distributed to subject leaders who oversee, develop, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of their subject within the school and across all year groups and where appropriate SAST. Our leaders are carefully chosen because of their expertise and experience. This ensures deep subject knowledge and effective leadership. Subject development is clearly identified through our school development plan. Leaders enable curriculum expertise to develop across staff, through carefully planned on-going professional development. All leaders oversee a budget to purchase curriculum resources that enhance our school’s curricular intentions.
EXTENDED CURRICULUM
We appreciate that learning is not just restricted to the classroom. Provision of visiting speakers, external visits and our well thought out extra curricular clubs provide excellent opportunities across our school to enhance and enrich the children’s learning. Each topic begins with a memorable experience that stimulates children’s curiosity and prepares them for new learning. A memorable experience often involves an educational visit out of school or a visitor coming into school to share their expertise with the children. Below is an example of our extended curriculum. Change is welcomed for individual class context, need and extension.

TEACHING AND LEARNING
Effective teaching creates high-quality experiences in a stimulating and supportive environment, fostering good outcomes for pupils. For example, teachers use real-world contexts, such as designing eco-friendly solutions for the school garden, to make lessons relevant and engaging. Relationships are central to this, aligned with our ethos of ‘Achieving, Belonging, and Caring.’ Through these principles, we aim to provide the best education for every child at Sherborne Primary School.

How do we provide for our more able children?
At Sherborne Primary we identify children as more able when children either perform above national expectations for their age or demonstrate particular strengths or talents.
We define More Able as: children who are achieving or have the potential to achieve in advance of their peers in one or more academic subjects.
We define talented pupils as: those children who have enhanced creative, musical, sporting or artistic ability.
We identify More Able children and provision is made for these children in the individual teacher’s daily planning; work is differentiated to make sure that all children, of whatever ability, are encouraged to do as well as they can.
In addition to extension and challenge during lessons, our most able pupils are involved with specialist projects. We keep a record of activities provided for our most able children to ensure that they regularly receive the additional challenge they need. We also liaise with local primary and secondary schools for partnership work to further support pupils.

How are Parents/Carers kept informed?
We aim to keep parents fully updated on a child’s progress and achievements through informal meetings, report cards and during parents evening. If you would like to discuss your child’s progress at any time throughout the year then an appointment can be made with the class teacher at both your convenience.
How can Parents/Carers help?
We encourage Parents and Carers to contribute to the school’s understanding of their child. Keeping the school informed of any awards, competition or out of school interests that they have. These achievements will then be celebrated as part of our Achievement Assembly on a Friday. Encourage your child’s interests by enrolling them in a club outside of school which will further nurture and encourage your child’s talent or gift. Above all by showing interest in your child’s learning, sharing enthusiasm for study, encouraging homework visits to libraries, museums and out of school courses will encourage your child and help them reach their full potential.
